Construction of School Building at Sarada Shishu Mandir, West Bengal

Sarada Shishu Mandir, Bindole in Raiganj Block, Uttar Dinajpur District, West Bengal, provides facilities for a considerable number of SC/ST/OBC students (38% general, 39% SC, 2% ST, 17% ST of total 537 students) by imparting education at a nominal monthly fee. The school had started in the year 2007 with the primary block consisting of the 1st to 5th standard only.

ONGC Foundation had provided financial assistance for the construction of a building in this school to enhance the benefits of education for more students. In May 2018, with the implementation of this project, the Sarada Seva Trust, Suradashnapur, Raiganj, Uttar Dinajpur was able to construct the secondary section as well. This step has strengthened the education system in the rural area as secondary schools are hard to find there. Moreover, quality education is being provided to the children in the nearby areas of Raiganj block. Out of the total beneficiaries, around 67% belong to the SC/ST/OBC categories. Under this project, seven classrooms, one office room, one computer room, one vice principal’s room, one teacher’s room and two toilet blocks have been built for the students.
