Preparing India’s Elite Athletes For The World’s Biggest Sporting Stage

The Target Olympics Podium Scheme (TOPS), implemented in collaboration with the National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) and Sports Authority of India (SAI), provides customised assistance and advanced training to Indian athletes with Olympic and Paralympic medal potential. The 18-month project began in February 2024 with the aim of helping athletes achieve excellence at major international events.

Delivering customised high-performance support for medal-potential athletes

TOPS is designed around the individual performance needs of elite athletes, combining advanced domestic and international training exposure with access to world-class equipment, expert coaching, sports science inputs and performance-related logistics. ONGC Foundation acted as the implementing agency and primary financial backer for the project.

Project Impact

Converting high-performance support into international success

The project supported elite athletes, contributed to medal outcomes at Paris 2024 and strengthened India’s wider high-performance sports ecosystem.

Athlete Reach

Direct support was extended to 177 elite athletes, including para-athletes, across a range of targeted and underserved disciplines.

Medal Success

Supported athletes contributed to 35 medals at Paris 2024—6 at the Olympics and 29 at the Paralympics—including 7 Gold, 10 Silver and 18 Bronze medals.

Ecosystem Development

The initiative strengthened India’s high-performance sports ecosystem by improving access to advanced training, specialised support and globally competitive preparation.

Monthly stipends: financial support enabling athletes to focus on preparation and performance.

Notable medalists: Ms. Manu Bhaker, Mr. Sarabjot Singh and Mr. Swapnil Kusale are among the medal-winning athletes named in the project content.
