Protection / Preservation of National Heritage

Preserving heritage. Protecting our legacy.

National heritage represents the cultural, historical, architectural, and natural legacy passed down through generations, serving as the physical anchor of a nation's identity, traditions, and collective values. Protecting these assets is essential for preserving cultural identity, promoting historical awareness, and ensuring accessibility for future generations. Grounded in this mission, ONGC Foundation's CSR initiative focuses on the holistic preservation, scientific restoration, and sustainable management of India's iconic monuments and sacred sites.

ONGC Foundation is deeply committed to safeguarding India's cultural legacy through ongoing heritage preservation and restoration initiatives across the country. Our projects bridge historic conservation with sustainable development and local community empowerment. Combining restoration with traditional craftsmanship ensures invaluable cultural treasures are preserved while uplifting surrounding communities.

Heritage Conservation Projects

Preserving sacred sites and living heritage while strengthening infrastructure, sustainability and local livelihoods.

01

Restoration of Sacred Sites & Living Heritage

Scientific restoration of ancient temple complexes across India, reviving intricate stone carvings, structural foundations, and sacred architectural elements. Holistic preservation of sacred ghats, pilgrimage sites, and intangible cultural traditions keeps living heritage vibrant, accessible, and spiritually significant.

02

Kedarnath & Badrinath Reconstruction Projects

Major redevelopment and reconstruction work includes Aastha Path pedestrian walkways, rain shelters along the Mandakini and Saraswati rivers, queue management systems, temple plaza seating arrangements, water ATMs, and the transformation of Badrinath Dham into a “Smart Spiritual Hill Town”, with focus on infrastructure modernization, eco-friendly queue management, environmental sustainability, and improved tourist and pilgrim facilities.

Impact: The Kedarnath and Badrinath redevelopment projects significantly enhance safety, accessibility, and comfort for over 50 lakh pilgrims and tourists annually through weather shelters, water ATMs, and streamlined queue systems. Simultaneously, upgrading Badrinath into a “Smart Spiritual Hill Town” boosts local livelihoods for thousands of residents and business owners by expanding tourism opportunities, while sustainable infrastructure protects fragile Himalayan ecosystems.
