Skill Development
Building skills. Creating opportunities.
Skill development is an important enabler of employability, livelihood enhancement and inclusive socio-economic development. It involves equipping individuals with knowledge, technical competencies, practical abilities and professional skills to secure employment, improve productivity, pursue entrepreneurship and strengthen existing livelihoods. Under the Indian CSR framework, skill development is recognised under Schedule VII, Item (ii) of the Companies Act, 2013, covering employment-enhancing vocational skills and livelihood enhancement projects.
Aligned with this framework, ONGC Foundation adopts a holistic approach to skill development, focusing on practical learning, technology, professional exposure, mentorship and capacity building. We support skill development initiatives that equip youth and communities with relevant knowledge, practical skills and employment opportunities. Through vocational training, capacity building and industry-oriented programmes, our efforts aim to enhance employability, promote entrepreneurship and enable individuals to build sustainable livelihoods. Its initiatives address diverse skill requirements through projects such as the Digital Media Training Centre (DMTC) and library-based digital skilling project in Kannur, which promote digital learning, content creation and e-learning; the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme (PMIS), which provides youth with workplace exposure and develops professional, communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills; and the handicrafts sector intervention, which strengthens capabilities in business development, marketing, design, product development, packaging and event management.
