ONGC Foundation’s Sports Excellence initiatives support sporting talent across the development pathway—from grassroots participation and athlete development to high-performance training for Olympic and Paralympic contenders.

The initiatives combine financial assistance, coaching, training opportunities, sports equipment and community-based sports development. Through scholarships, elite athlete support, infrastructure strengthening and grassroots programmes, ONGC Foundation helps athletes pursue their potential while expanding access and participation in sport.

Our Approach

A multi-level sports development approach that combines access, athlete support, high-performance preparation and stronger training ecosystems.

Building pathways from participation to performance

Through the ONGC Sports Scholarship Scheme, 250 scholarships are available across 21 sports disciplines for Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior categories. The scheme supports economically weaker young sportspersons, with 50% representation of females in overall sports scholarships. At the grassroots level, the Brahmaputra Volleyball League reaches 8,000+ children across 160 villages in Assam and Manipur through coaching, equipment and structured competitions.

Strengthening high-performance support and training environments

Under the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), ONGC Foundation supports 177 elite athletes, including para-athletes, through advanced training, specialised equipment, coaching, travel, accommodation, nutrition and other performance support. Supported athletes secured 35 medals at the Paris Olympics and Paralympics 2024—7 Gold, 10 Silver and 18 Bronze. The Foundation has also strengthened training infrastructure at the Usha School of Athletics.

Together, these initiatives connect grassroots participation, athlete development and elite performance while contributing to SDGs 3, 5, 10 and 17—Good Health and Well-being, Gender Equality, Reduced Inequalities and Partnerships for the Goals.
