A School Bag That Transforms Into A Study Table

ONGC Foundation implemented the DESKIT initiative to help bridge the educational resource gap faced by primary-school children in under-resourced communities. Designed for students from Classes 1 to 5, DESKIT is a lightweight school bag that converts into an ergonomic study table—giving children a more comfortable, portable and functional space for learning.

Background

Turning a basic school need into a practical learning solution

To commemorate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and support the vision of the National Education Policy 2020, ONGC Foundation implemented a focused initiative to bridge the educational resource gap in rural India. Many primary-school children in under-resourced government schools and non-formal learning centres lack access to basic classroom furniture, affecting comfort, posture and concentration.

75,000 Children supported through DESKIT distribution
750 Distribution events organised under the initiative
1–5 Primary-school classes covered by the programme
9 States and Union Territories reached by the project
Key Objectives

Supporting better learning, comfort and classroom engagement

The initiative combines access to educational resources with ergonomic support to create a more comfortable and enabling learning environment for underprivileged children.

01

Improve access to educational facilities

Provide underprivileged children with a practical learning facility that can be used both at school and beyond the classroom.

02

Support physical well-being

Help reduce backaches, eye strain, poor eyesight and spinal slouching through a more ergonomic study setup.

03

Enhance learning engagement

Improve concentration, classroom engagement and the overall learning atmosphere by providing a more comfortable study space.

Project Locations

Reaching learners across diverse regions

The DESKIT initiative reached primary-school learners across nine states and Union Territories, extending practical educational support across varied geographies.
